What's stopping big Bertha? Seattle debates mysterious object obstructing tunnel machine
Fri Dec 20, 2013
All I know is that, being in Portland, we once again give a little chuckle to our friends in the North. The true problem is how ungodly their traffic and urban planning is. They didn't build any traffic infrastructure (a 20-lane and yet constantly at a standstill I-5 doesn't count as planning), and …
Congratulations, Louisianans — you're the worst drivers in America
Mon Dec 16, 2013
Kudos to my home state of Oregon. Not only is it on the list of safest drivers but it also isn't located in any of the regions being discussed so passionately here. Add in the fact that we don't have any of those weather phenomena or natural disasters and we are golden. But of course that doesn't me …
Colorado high school shooter read bomb-making manual
Sun Dec 15, 2013
Although I acknowledge this tragedy and wish wellness and good health health to those shot and/or traumatized as well as a fair punishment with some sort of insight into WHY the shooter did such a thing, other than that none of it matters. It does not matter. And that is because nobody in this cou …

Former House Speaker Tom Foley dead at 84
Fri Oct 18, 2013
Oh, how I remember when Mr. Foley was Speaker. Considering what we've got now (and the irony of his statement is not lost on me), it seems like a bygone era of decency and cooperation.
Record-setting rain drenches Northwest even more than usual
Mon Sep 30, 2013
It bugs me when Portland and Seattle are lumped together, weather-wise. We are hundreds of miles from Seattle and it has significantly more rain than we do.
Wife's fear leads to new look at husband in deaths

Not to belittle the tragedy of those lives lost, but…I smell a TV movie in the works.
Horseback riders who found Hannah say it was 'one chance in a trillion'
Sun Aug 11, 2013
I love Idaho. I was born there and my people are still there. It gets a bad rap (some of it reserved), but people like these horseback riders are amazing. So down AND salt of the earth. Plus, I love the accent. It's not Southern, obviously. It's down-home. Awesome.

NIH finally makes good with Henrietta Lacks' family -- and it's about time, ethicist says
Wed Aug 7, 2013
I hope more people read the book now. It is a really good one. I even gave it to my infusion nurses for a Christmas gift a few years back. Each of them had ran into HeLa cells in nursing school and even they had no clue about the story behind them. It's an incredible story an …
